I will do my best to try and solve any issue. I appreciate your business and value our relationship but I need you to do your part to make sure the rod meets your satisfaction.
I build each Matthews CUSTOM ROD with high quality rod components and I can’t afford to re-build rods for free. Don't get me wrong, they can handle what they are rated for, just not neglect and abuse.
Manufacturers defects usually reveal themselves in the first few fishing trips. Most rod breaks result from exceeding the manufacturers line recommendations or from impact nicks in the graphite. Impact nicks are caused from impact with materials harder than the graphite ie;contact with handrails, bouncing off the truck bed, contact with other rods... These rods cannot take the abuse the old school IM-6 rods can.

Rod Care Tips
- I ship each Matthews Custom Rods in PVC pipe. Please use it when transporting your rods. Do not travel with an unprotected rod in the bed of your truck or boat.
- Do not exceed the recommended line rating for your rod. Doing so will void your warranty.
- Use the minimal amount of drag necessary to land your fish.
- Never high stick your rod while setting the hook, fighting, or landing the fish.
- Use a net to land big fish instead of picking the fish straight up with the rod. You can easily break your rod if it is bent in an arc that is tighter than its design will allow.
- Do not place your hand above the reel seat while fighting the fish in order to get more leverage. This will cause the rod to break at that point of excessive pressure, rather than allowing the rod to distribute the pressure of the fish over the entire length of the blank.
- Use your flat hand, instead of your finger and thumb, when flexing a rod tip. Using your thumb and finger will snap the tip off.
- If your lure becomes snagged, do not pull the rod back as if fighting a fish, but rather pull straight back while pointing the rod tip at the lure. By putting the stress on the line instead of the rod tip, you will never break a rod on a snag.
